I actually prefer the one on the right. Because I think the photo benefits from diffusing the surroundings. This diffusing of the surroundings makes me feel like Theo's thoughts are separated from the surroundings as well. It makes me think that he is contemplative. Maybe even sad in a way. The one on the right, hiding nothing, looks to me like an ordinary snapshot. And it gives me nothing.
